Her environmental installation for preschoolers now occupies "the Old Fire House" is still in place in Lafayette. She currently resides in Oakland and keeps a studio at Art Explosion Gallery located at 2425 17th street in San Francisco Throughout my life art has been a sanctuary and an adventure for me. I use my sculptures to find and define myself and the world around me.One common theme I explore is the limitations in all forms, self- imposed, cultural, or otherwise. Limitations give a sense of security, a instant identity, and unplanned purpose; it is the struggle to break free and the fear of that freedom that fascinates me.The realization that nature, once our all knowing and powerful parent, is now ailing brings a new weight to our shoulders. And like children who sense for the first time that they have the power to injure their parents, we feel a caution and insecurity we have never fully known.I was born in Mississippi I moved to califorina at 5 but I remain connected to the south and go and visit once a year. I graduated from San Francisco state university in 1996 I now work out of my studio at the Art Explosion. |
